Thanks for the continued work on the site. It’s really interesting to see how everything is evolving.
I think I’ve figure out this years pattern length, lol. It seems we only have one good set of continuous storms(in which we are in now) followed by two smaller weekly storms, Then high and dry for for almost 4 weeks with one possible storm in between. Ooof! Tough year for us powder chasers who don’t have our calendar wide open. I really hope the storm on the 23rd pans out then I can join the fun when this current series comes back the last week of February.
Are you seeing any signs in teleconnections that might help out the snowfall a bit during the next 5 weeks following the exit of the current series of storms?
I think you are on it Freddy! Yes, we are getting help right now with the MJO. There will likely be a lull through phases 3-4, then if the MJO continues thru phases 5-6-7-8 we will be in good shape for the bad part of the pattern. Presently, the MJO is in phase 3 and moves into phase 4 the 16th, Phase 5 the 20th, so around the 25th, the effects of the MJO should increase the strength of storms because there is around a 5-day lag to affect the West coast storms. The system on the 28th, for S Rockies, will be the one to watch. If this is a big storm this time thru, we will know that the MJO is helping us on the back end.
