Pattern Discussion
We are in spring mode as there are signs that the pattern is changing. Temperatures are warming and the sun angle is getting pretty high.
What does this mean for the pattern storms? It means that some will shift northward. We are seeing that with this current storm, that will hit Lake Tahoe tonight. The main pattern track would be to slide through Utah and Colorado, then northeast through Minnesota.
We have witnessed this track over and over through the last 3 cycles. What is happening now is what happened back in September.
The strong pattern storms will still come through, at least through April, but the smaller systems will likely be north. I could be wrong, this could turn around and just be a lull. We will know in the next 5 days if it’s “business as usual” or we are in new territory.
Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe gets going Tonight. This is not a big storm, but it will be a nice refresh. There are 5 Tahoe resorts in the 700 club (Boreal, Sugar Bowl, Kirkwood, Mammoth and China Peak) with Palisades and Sierra at Tahoe on the cusp of 700. Expect 4-8 for resorts along the northern crest.
Temperatures will be in the lower 30’s, at base level, with moderate winds between 15-20 with 30 mph gusts.

Snow Rescue at Mt Baker
This has been making the rounds on social media the last week. If you haven’t seen it, it is an incredible rescue and it shows how you can get sucked into a tree well. Mt Hood has it on their front page so I thought I would post it as well. https://youtu.be/wQ8Kgb_XUkk
