Short Range Snowfall Totals
These are probabilistic snowfall charts from the National Weather Service.
PNW
The storm has moved out of the northern Cascades and is still looking good for Oregon resorts, although it is hitting a little later than expected. Today’s snow totals are expected to be in the 6-12 range for Mt Hood, Bachelor and HooDoo. Tonight, more snow on the way, but temps will be rising overnight with snow levels rising to 5700 feet by Sunday morning, so today is the day to ride.
Lake Tahoe
A good burst of snow hit yesterday, Kirkwood had about 10″ on their stake. Next snow chances are Tuesday.
Utah
Better than expected snow by first chair, looks like a solid 7 at Alta. Today we’re looking at a “Ride the Storm” day with heavy snow. Bring your clear lenses. Expect an additional 10-16 for the Cottonwood resorts Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Snowbasin and Brighton. Park City/Canyons and Deer Valley will be in the 4-8 range. The storm will move out by 8 pm after an additional 2-4.
Brian Head, your still screwed, maybe 1-3–hang in there spring should be good.
Next system Monday.
Colorado
The storm moves in this afternoon and will begin moving from the northwest to southeast. This storm is looking solid for the whole state.
The storm is looking like 6-12 for the northern mountains, 5-10 for the divide, and 3-6 for the central and southern mountains.
Next system hits late Monday, and the models are improving on snowfall amounts. Again, I’ll have the projected snowfall chart for tomorrow thru Wednesday. Below are select long-range charts from the European Ensemble to give you a sense of what is coming.
Long-Range Euro Ensemble Chart thru Jan 21
These are 24-hour Total Snow charts. The bottom graph shows the snow totals by day, divided into two parts. Note, the storm occurs a day before the line begins to rise, because it is the total of the snowfall thru 24 hours. It’s kind of confusing.
