Hurricane Hone has hit Hawaii this morning with max sustained winds of 80 mph. The storm is expected to miss the other islands and weaken over the next 24 hours.
Pacific
There is quite a lot of warm water for Hurricane development left in the Pacific, even though it is forecasted by the Climate Prediction Center “CPC” for a La Nina to emerge this winter (66% chance Sept-Nov and 74% chance during Nov-Jan). The Active phase of the hurricane pattern ends today. The current storms in the Pacific will work their way through and I expect a quiet period until the first or second week of September.
We are entering peak hurricane season which lasts between now and around the first week of October. It has been a quiet year, even though it was predicted to be well above average, by just about everybody–with the exception of us and our partner Weather 2020.
Here is the current list from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center conducted by Colorado State University. You can see we are sitting at 3 named storms for the Atlantic Basin. (click to enlarge) https://seasonalhurricanepredictions.bsc.es/forecast/seasonal-predictions
Last year we had hurricanes Franklin, Idalia, Margot, Nigel and Lidia during that timeframe. Let’s dive in and look at the expected possibilities for the upcoming peak hurricane season.

Corpus Christi and Florida have verified. We hit the Trifecta with Hurricane Beryl predicting the date, location and path. Florida’s Hurricane Debby; we got the date and location correct.
