Forecast Discussion
We have a small system that is passing through Utah and Colorado, today and tonight, that will bring light snow showers beginning this morning for Utah and late today for Colorado. Expect 2-4 today and another 2-4 tonight for Utah resorts, while Colorado can expect similar totals tonight and Monday.
The next system will slide down the California coast, as a Low-pressure system gets cut-off from the main energy, before splitting in two. Lake Tahoe will be nailed again, with likely 1-2 feet Tuesday. That system moves eastward reaching Utah resorts by Wednesday and finally Colorado by Wednesday night/Thursday.
The timing with cut-off systems is always tricky, so don’t hold me to the exact timing until we get a little closer. This should be another big producer but this time of year we need to keep an eye on temperatures. Tahoe and Utah look good, but Colorado is questionable below 8000 feet. Again, a lot can happen between now and Thursday.
The chart below is a long-range tool in grid form, for precipitation by the Euro ensemble. Looking at the graph at the bottom you can get an idea of the timing of the next storm, along with precipitation amounts for the current system.
Colorado Calendars thru May
Utah Calendar To Date (April Calendar Tomorrow)
Below is the Lake Tahoe Calendar we published back on February 2nd. I have gone back and took a look at the calendars to see how we have done. The green squares are on the Long-Range Forecast prediction chart. Yellow squares are storms that have hit at least one cycle. Red Circles and X’s are misses and the Blue brackets are storms that have hit at within one day.
I am really happy with this calendar. We have tried to figure out the Lake, as it is on a different type of cycle, due to its location away from the general pattern jet stream. We are improving, the patent pending model has made forecasting Lake Tahoe easier.
