thru 5a 29th, thru 5a 28th, 2, 4 Day

PNW/Canada

4 Day Totals

Winter Storm Warnings in effect thru Thursday for the northern Cascades as the winds continue to cause problems with resorts.  Crystal was limited yesterday due to the wind.  Heavy snow will continue throughout the PNW and British Columbia today with another 6-12 likely for Crystal Mountain, Mt Baker and possibly Snoqualmie.  Up in BC Whistler should be in the 4-8 range today with warm temps from base to mid mountain.  Upper mountain should be nice–bring your squeegees.  Sun Peaks same conditions, snow level around 1000m.

Back to the southern Cascades, heavy snow for Mt Hood resorts Timberline and Meadows with 1-2 feet by tomorrow.  Temps a little warm at base but will be good conditions up top, snow level around 5500 this morning dropping to 4000 this afternoon.  The roller coaster continues tomorrow with snow levels, 5000 in the am dropping to 4500 then back to 55oo by Sat morning.  Skibowl and Teacup will be nasty, again bring squeegees!

Lake Tahoe

4 Day Totals

Light snow showers will begin today around 2-3 pm with snow totals today in the 2-4 range for resorts along the crest.  A stronger wave moves in tonight with strong winds gusting in the 50’s at lake level.  Snow totals will be in the 6-12 range for Kirkwood, Palisades and Sugar Bowl above 8000ft.  Snow levels today will be in the 5-6000 ft range rising tomorrow to around 7000 ft.  That will zap a lot of the snowfall for lower resorts.

Another storm on Sunday with lower snow levels.

Utah

4 Day Totals

A decent wave moves in this morning just before the lifts start spinning.  Temps will be just about perfect, 26 at base, with light winds.  Snow totals today in the 5-10 range for Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude.

Tonight, a stronger system moves in with snow totals in the 7-14 range.

Snow continues Friday thru Saturday night.  Friday night another 4-8 and then Saturday a little more–5-10.

Colorado

4 Day Totals

Scattered snow showers today before a decent wave comes in tonight that will favor the central and northern mountains.  Vail/Beaver Creek, Aspen and Steamboat should be in the 3-6 range by tomorrow with another 3-6 throughout the day.

Another wave moves in Friday night that looks to be the best.  That should bring good totals (still single digits for most) for all resorts with some spots in the low double digits.

Storm Totals Expected thru Friday Night

Vail/Beaver Creek, Aspen and Steamboat 8-16

Southern and Divide Resorts 4-8

Long Range Forecast Predictions

We are sitting at 88.8 % Accurate, which is along our historical average.  The Active Pattern is just 5 days away from the storm that will move thru the Pacific Northwest, Lake Tahoe, Utah and Colorado Christmas Eve (PNW, Tahoe) Day (Utah) and Night (Colorado).

Average lead time between when the storms were predicted and when they hit is 23.37 days, which is quite a bit better than model guidance which maxes out at 14 days.

There will be a few storms moving through the Pacific Northwest and Canada between now and the Active Pattern beginning today.  Another storm Sunday will hit the PNW and possibly Lake Tahoe and finally a third wave through the PNW and Canada on Monday the 23rd.
