Forecast Summary

What a day it was yesterday, for the west.  Judging from the snow stake cams, there will be some great powder this morning.

I am still in Utah and was at Snow Basin yesterday.  What a great resort! The snow started early, around 8 am and fell throughout the day.  There was at least 6-8 up at the peak, via the tram.  Their stake is showing 11 this morning.

The snow will continue today for the southern Cascades, California and Utah, while there is a small break in between waves for parts of Colorado, but most areas will refire this afternoon.

Lake Tahoe

Today

Heavy snow throughout the day.  Temps in the upper teens with similar wind speeds in the morning and increasing in the afternoon, as the strongest energy hits the lake.  Expect winds to increase to 30-40 mph with 50 mph gusts at base and ridgetop winds near 100 mph.

Tuesday

Snow and more snow!  Temperatures in the teens with strong winds, although not as strong as Monday.  I think it will be in the 20-30 mph range with 40 mph gusts.  The wind charts are not very accurate after 48 hours so don’t hold me to it.

Utah

Today

Powder Day!  Heavy snow throughout the day with temperatures in the upper teens.  Moderate winds between 15-20 with 30 mph gusts.

Tuesday

Rince and repeat.  Cold temps and wind chills near zero.  Snow.

Colorado

Today

Scattered snow with temperatures in the upper 20’s with moderate winds between 10-15 with 25 mph gusts.  There will be a break in the action, but the next wave will roll in later today.  Expect stronger winds near the divide.

Tuesday

Snow continues as the strongest part of the storm works its way through.  Temperatures in the low 20’2 with strong winds 20-30 mph with gusts up near 50 mph.

Spring Break/March Calendars

We posted our spring break forecast, thru April 1st on yesterday’s blog, in calendar format.  It is pretty simple to use, the dark blue squares are probable storms, and the light blue squares are 60% chance, meaning if we have enhanced teleconnectivity, there will be extra waves, or more snow!
