Forecast Summary

What a week!  This is the biggest storm in the last 3 years, with over a hundred inches, in the last week for Lake Tahoe and 78 inches at Utah’s Brighton, As we continue to roll through the present system, here in Utah, mountain roads are closed to Alta and Snowbird and are expected to open around 8:30.  Several roads and resorts are closed at Lake Tahoe, check the website before you go and plan on slow travel.

In Alta, the mountain will likely be delayed due to Avalanche mitigation, the bombs are going off as I type.  Snowbasin might be the best choice today if you want to head out early. I am working on getting everything uploaded to the server, again, I am having connectivity issues, so I will keep trying.

This storm will be intense today, with Blizzard Warnings for Tahoe and likely 3 feet for some resorts.  Utah resorts will receive another 3-6 this morning as the present wave works through, and another 10-15 as the next wave hits tonight.

Tomorrow, the storm exits Lake Tahoe.  Utah will continue to be hammered until the lifts close as the storm won’t move out until tomorrow night.  For Colorado, snow will continue through Thursday with the strongest accumulation occurring today and Wednesday.  Wolf Creek is again the place to be with 3 feet expected by Thursday.

Spring Break/March Calendars

We posted our spring break forecast, thru April 1st on yesterday’s blog, in calendar format.  It is pretty simple to use, the dark blue squares are probable storms, and the light blue squares are 60% chance, meaning if we have enhanced teleconnectivity, there will be extra waves, or more snow!

    Hi Mike,

How’s next week systems for CO looking? March 6 to 11. Open snow models show nothing from the 6 to the 9th.

    • Future Snow says:

Their models are off, probably a glitch, the storms are definitely showing up on the GFS. Snow begins on the late on the 5th and ends on the 7th at midnight The system for the 9th isn’t showing up. The next system hits on the 11th through midnight on the 12th. I was just talking about this with an emailer. He wondered why the calendar and the official predictions are slightly different. The answer is the pattern is running a little early right now. You may have noticed on our prediction chart that the storms are around a day early. I am going to give an update on this tomorrow.
