The snow is getting closer. The Canadian side of the Pacific Northwest is getting some action over the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on Whistler Blackcomb to see how well the storms perform. These storms will return…….
Below are the next chances for precipitation for California, Utah and Colorado. First the surface map followed by the Euro long-range probabilistic charts. The solid bars show agreement, and the scattered areas show some possibility.
On the Utah and Colorado front, there is a small wave that will come through tomorrow night, that may bring some snow for the higher elevations. There is a larger system that will come thru next Sunday night and Monday, that in future cycles could be a strong storm for Lake Tahoe.
Watch the cut-off low skirt northern Tahoe and moves west thru Utah. With a strong MJO (Maddan Julian Oscillation) this will could be a monster storm for the Lake.
Now is the time for watching, for all of you who try to discover the new cycle length. Every wave and every storm that comes through will return, in some form, in upcoming cycles. This cycle a trough moves through and next cycle it could be a huge low-pressure system. The key is to figure out when storms return to solve the cycle length. Once the cycle length is determined, then you will know when the storms will return and where.
Along with the storms, the other teleconnections add their own flavor to the systems that come through. The Artic Oscillation (AO) adds cold or warm air. The MJO adds the southern track for storms and the intensity. ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) controls the direction of the jet stream. The rest of the connections have their own influences, but you get the picture, the combination and strength of the teleconnections determine the outcome, which can be different each cycle.,
This year has started out warm and dry, don’t worry too much about these conditions, as the greatest snowfall year for Utah started out the same way. It will be cold soon enough.
Another Predicted Hurricane
This one, Hurricane Milton, is on our first chart that came out all the way back in March. On the chart it is right below the Guadalajara box. This hurricane is running a little late due to the changing pattern but will still be within the window of +/- 5 days. This will be the 6th (5 Hurricanes and one Typhoon) correct hurricane prediction this year.
