Forecast Summary
Snow continues today for resorts in Utah and Colorado. That system will exit Utah by this afternoon. I am expecting another 2-4 for Alta, Snowbird, and Brighton before the storm departs. We will have scattered snow showers remaining in most of Colorado, with the bulk of the system already moved out to the southeast. There may be 1-3 additional, but I am not expecting much more. It has outperformed the models, as I expected.
Judging by the snow stakes above, it will be a nice powder day at Steamboat, with around 9, Beaver Creek around 6, Vail 5. It was nuking at Powderhorn, as I checked the stake there, it had a solid 4 with heavy snow. In Utah, I’ve lost count of how many powder days they have had. Alta is close to 500 for the year, with another powder day today with 11 in the last 24 hrs. I have a trip planned to Alta the 23rd thru the 27th, if you are headed that way shoot me a comment or email.
Next Two Weeks
We are in another active period, as we talked about before this system kicked it off. Over the next couple of weeks, we are going to have systems that came through in December. There was a ton of snow during the holidays and that part of the pattern is set to come back through. The GFS does have pretty good grip on the upcoming storms that are on the Long-Range Forecast Predictions, storms 43-50. Let’s take a look.
Gary posted an excellent breakdown of the upcoming storms from his blog yesterday, if you didn’t get a chance to look at it, make sure you check it out–Garys Post.
